Hubei Harvin Chemical Phosphogypsum Stack Ecological Remediation Project
Project Description:
This phosphogypsum stack was subject to public criticism by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) in 2022 for severe pollutant leakage, marking it as a high-priority remediation project under direct supervision by Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau. Prior to our intervention, Harvin Chemical had invested heavily in multiple remediation attempts, all of which failed to halt pollutant migration.
Technical Solution
Our technical team designed a targeted multi-stage remediation strategy:
1. Composite Anti-Seepage System
Ÿ Deployed an HDPE Geomembrane + Mineral Anti-Seepage Blanket dual-layer structure to control vertical pollution infiltration.
Ÿ Integrated a membrane-surface drainage system to collect contaminated surface water above the liner.
2. Vertical Dewatering & Treatment
Ÿ Implemented the air-driven vertical drainage-pumping to extract contaminated water trapped within the phosphogypsum stack.
Ÿ Pumped water was conveyed to a centralized wastewater treatment plant for purification, achieving simultaneous solid waste stabilization and wastewater treatment.
Project Outcomes
Ÿ Compliance Achievement: Met all MEE remediation deadlines, relieving local government supervisory pressure while ensuring uninterrupted corporate operations.
Ÿ Cost-Time Efficiency: Completed via a "high-tech, low-cost, short-duration" approach, reducing conventional project timelines through modularized construction.
Mineral Anti-Seepage Blanket installation area: 72400㎡, Fiber-reinforced cement blanket installation area: 26500㎡.
Completion date: May 2022.
