Technical Background:

China is the world’s leading producer of electrolytic manganese metal, with a generation of over 10 million metric tons of manganese slag annually. By 2022, cumulative manganese slag stockpiles had exceeded 130 million metric tons. Manganese slag contains high levels of soluble salts and complex compounds, posing significant environmental risks if improperly managed. Currently, landfill disposal remains the primary method, consuming vast land resources and incurring high costs, while frequent leaks from slag storage sites continue to cause pollution incidents.

Technical Advantages:

Guided by the principle of "pollution control + resource utilization", Yichang Shengtron completed laboratory-scale trials in October 2022, field pilot testing in November 2022, and expert review approval in September 2023, with full project feasibility studies finalized.

The process integrates primary impurity removal, secondary manganese extraction, and ammonium sulfate evaporation using advanced reverse osmosis (RO) membrane systems and Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) evaporation technology. This enables simultaneous recovery of manganese sulfate and ammonium sulfate resources while treating wastewater to meet both national and local discharge standards.
